AFL INDUSTRIES,INC. <br /> RIVIERA BEACH,FLORIDA <br /> SERVICE INSTALLATION Page 6 OF 8 <br /> MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS <br /> PRODUCT: VERTICAL TUBE COALESCING <br /> SEPARATORS <br /> MODELS: ALL UNITS <br /> LEVELING TANKS <br /> Before piping connections are performed,the tanks must be properly leveled. The allowable deviations shall be: <br /> 1. Side to Side(Tank width): '/4" <br /> 2. End to End(Tank Length): '/4" <br /> NOTE: On tanks resting on concrete slab,sand may be used for leveling the tank. Sand must be <br /> evenly distributed under the entire tank bottom section. Do not use wedges or shims. <br /> WARNING:AVOID POINT LOADS. IF THE TANK IS EQUIPPED WITH SKIMMER <br /> OR OTHER SPECIFIED EQUIPMENT,REMOVE SHIPPING BRACES AND <br /> TAPE,AND REFER TO SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION IN THIS BROCHURE <br /> FOR INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED. <br /> LEVELING WEIR PLATES <br /> Loosen nuts on effluent and oil trough weir plates. <br /> If blind flanges are available,use them on all tank nozzles located below tank water level. If connecting piping to all tank nozzles <br /> is supplied with shut-off valves that can isolate the tank,connect piping and close valves. <br /> Fill tank with water. Make sure all tank chambers are filled evenly. Do not exceed tank design flow. (See equipment <br /> specifications in this brochure when filling tank.) <br /> Inspect all weir plates and skimmers,check weir plate levels using water level as reference,adjust as required. Tighten weir plate <br /> bolts. Do not overtighten. <br /> Connect all piping if not previously done. See instructions above and check for leaks. <br /> When the above described installation procedures are completed,and tank,accessories,such as pumps,mixers,heaters etc.,are <br /> installed and checked out,the equipment is ready for operation. <br /> CAUTION: DO NOT START UP SEPARATOR. SEE START-UP PROCEDURE 1-O-M:2.04.0 <br /> BEFORE LETTING UNTREATED FLOW ENTER. <br /> BACKFILLING <br /> Backfill with a naturally rounded material that,when poured,becomes interlocked and exhibits sufficient resistance to shear and <br /> load-bearing capacities to be termed"Self Compacting". <br /> The single material answering this requirement is a naturally rounded aggregate of/4"nominal size(ranging from 1/8"to 3/8"(P), <br /> clean,and free flowing. Local names vary. Some are"pea gravel","pea stone","roofing gravel",etc. <br /> SUPERSEDES: I-O-M: 2.00-02 <br />
