PERMIT#:M-1996-060
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: September 9,2021
OBSERVATIONS
This was a brief routine monitoring inspection conducted by DRMS at the Firestien Pit site. The site entrance is
located off the west side of 83' Ave just south of the intersection with County Road 64 (also known as"O"
Street). The site is WNW of the Town of Greeley in Weld County. There are 300.84 acres currently permitted
at this 112c site as no releases of any permitted acreage have been approved. The inspection was conducted by
Eric Scott of DRMS. Due to miscommunication with the permittee, no permittee representative was present,
and therefore the scope of this inspection was limited. The permit identification sign was missing and this will
need to be replaced as stated on the first page of this inspection report.
Mining has been completed at this site, and reclamation is well underway. No site structures remain with the
exception of a wood split rail fence located near the site entrance, and some large rocks that previously defined
a parking area near the site entrance. There were also some stockpiles of product along the entrance road that
remain to be removed or utilized. These features should be removed prior to a release request. Earth berms
located along the south boundary of the permit between the river and active site areas will also need to be
removed prior to release.
Reclamation is progressing across the remainder of the site. The prior exposed groundwater areas located in the
south-central part of the permit have been entirely backfilled. The southwest area of the permit has been
successfully reclaimed as a fish-farm and is well vegetated, and the western portion of the permit has been
backfilled and is being utilized as cropland.
Some shoreline maintenance will likely be required for the water bodies located in the permit, and all remaining
exposed/unlined water bodies will need to be included in an approved permanent augmentation plan before the
permit can be released by DRMS. The majority of the on-site reclamation will likely consist of maintenance
and weed control for the reclamation vegetation.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
