My concerns with this project is that it is above the Canon City water intake and the potential for
contamination of aquifers and underground water looms as a significant threat. The information I have
estimates the water use in the mining operation at approximately 65,000,000. per year. That is about 200 acre
feet, which is a huge amount of water, which could contaminate the city water source not to mention wells and
small streams in the area. They propose to use several chemicals mixed with water in processing the ore taken
from the mine. I have little faith that this operation can be done safely and that a large enough monetary
amount can be required to rectify any damages to the water resource should an accident or some unforeseen
problem arise. This community experienced contamination of ground water for forty years. Leaking"water tight"
holding ponds contaminated aquifers and ground water with the processing liquid waste left over from yellow
cake production. Cotter Corporation's uranium produced a bi-product that they said could be contained but was
not! My spring and ditch were contaminated with molybdenum and uranium more than 3 miles from the ponds.
Its taken forty years to reduce the levels but not to historic low levels. I request a denial of the mining permit
because adequate bond insurance have not been required so that this operation will be safe and adequate
restoration will be achieved.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M122112211 or C123456789.
M20211046
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
County
Fremont
Enter one county only
Site Name
Dawson Gold Mine
Perm ittee/Operator Name
Zephyr Gold USA Ltd
