Comment/Objection Narrative*
Zephyr is seeking permits for their Dawson Mine site east of Grape Creek and adjacent to Canon City's
Dawson Ranch neighborhood. This is the third consecutive year that Zephyr Minerals is seeking gold mining
permits from Colorado for an overly ambitious gold mining operation that would extend from the steps of Canon
City, miles to the west, onto wild and scenic State and BLM public lands, transecting the Grape Creek proposed
Wilderness, BLM's Wilderness Study Area and Grape Creek Area of Critical Environmental Concern(ACEC),
managed to protect"a corridor of significant natural and geologic character with unique desert riparian
resources, scenic and visual qualities, flora and fauna values.".This would be another step closer for Zephyr
and their master plan to gold mine across the Grape Creek wilderness and wildlife area.
Zephyr has expanded their holdings, changed the minerals being investigated, and changed their proposed
mining techniques since being formed. While change is typical, no one knows what the next revision will be.
And no one local is being involved or educated.Change just happens. On February 21,2020 Zephyr
announced:"Zephyr Minerals Ltd.continues to advance its 100%owned high grade Dawson-Green Mountain
Project in Colorado, USA".After expanding its land package to 1,385 hectares(3,430 acres), under
consideration are mining prospects west of the Dawson Mountain location, crossing over Grape Creek and into
the Grape Creek Wilderness Study Area to explore the entire 12.2 km(7.5 mi)mineralized trend using the
Broken Hill Type deposit as an exploration model.
The two maps,The Dawson—Green Mountain Property Map and the Zephyr Minerals Proposed Activity Map
from the Zephyr Minerals February 3,2021 presentation"GOLD RESOURCE GROWTH in Colorado,"clearly
show more Patented Claims and Unpatented Claims to the west of the current proposed Zephyr Gold Mining
Operation.
The proposed claims threaten Mining Threatens:
•Grape Creek proposed Wilderness.Grape Creek has been proposed for Wilderness via the Colorado
Wilderness Act by Congresswoman DeGette since 1999 and passed the US House in February 2021 as part of
a greater public lands package in the Protecting America's Wilderness and Public Lands Act(PAW+).
•BLM's Grape Creek Wilderness Study Area. The Grape Creek Upper and Lower WSAs were designated in
1980 for their diverse terrain from rolling hills to rugged canyons and mountains to rich riparian zones along the
creek,has cultural,geologic,and historical significance.
•BLM's Grape Creek Area of Critical Environmental Concern. The Grape Creek ACEC is managed by BLM to
protect a corridor of significant natural and geologic character.
•A geologically complex area of significant interest related to the uplift of the southeast quadrant of the Royal
Gorge Dome.Threatened by the expansion into the El Porno Section and areas west-unpatented mining
claims of the Dawson-Green Mountain Mineralized Trend
Please do not approve this mining permit application! The application does not have sufficient assurances that
a long-term compromise will not happen.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M122112211 or C123456789.
M2021046
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
County
Fremont
Enter one county only
Site Name
Dawson Gold Mine
Perm ittee/Operator Name
Zephyr Gold USA Ltd.
