In 1958 Cotter Corporation was allowed to <br /> come into our community with promises of jobs and a place in the future of nuclear energy.The jobs came, <br /> nuclear energy is still an unfulfilled promise but it is no doubt that the unfettered dumping process of the <br /> company left the Lincoln Park neighborhood without the use of their well water.The Canon City Community is <br /> also burdened with the stigma of a National Priority List designation(Superfund sites)primarily because of the <br /> contamination of the groundwater under Lincoln Park with radioactive materials and other chemical <br /> constituents. <br /> Even with improved environmental regulations and better oversight of industrial operations such as mines,the <br /> risk is too great to our water and our environment. <br /> No economic gain in the short term can be justified by sacrificing so much of our future.
