Currently,Zephyr intends to utilize 65,000,000 gallons of ground water each year from the very ground
that Grape Creek flows over and through. The creek and the ground water are not mutually exclusive of each
other. In addition to the sheer volume of water usage, contamination of water is another concern and it is not
limited to Grape Creek alone, which lays 1000 feet down hill from the location that is proposed for on-site
refinement of the extracted ore. Eventually Grape Creek enters the Arkansas River only a few miles below the
mining site.
The proposal to utilize and store on site 3,600 pounds of processing chemicals,8,400 gallons of diesel fuel and
13,000 pounds of explosives should be enough to raise concerns regarding health and fire safety for this area
adjacent to BLM, National Forest Lands and the City of Canon City.
Where will the money come from to develop, construct and maintain road access to the mining site. Road
access to this area does not currently exist in size nor depth to support a mining operation.Currently,
helicopters are the major source of transport being used to bring in equipment and supplies to the existing
exploration site. The land access that will be used, seems to not yet be determined,at least for release to the
public.
Both sides of my family have resided in Colorado since mid 1880's.So I know all too well that Colorado has
often been referred to as the state where mining was"king". Unfortunately this beautiful state carries the
obvious scars of this often referenced motto. And the best intentions for"reclamation"often fail to meet the
intended goal of restoration due to limited funding or lack of timeliness in follow-through or both.
Do not grant a permit to this foreign exploration company to mine for an ore that will be more profitable to
Canada than to the US.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M122112211 or C123456789.
M2021046
