Mining Permit M2021046.
These areas are reliable birding spots for Gray Flycatcher,Virginia's Warbler, Ladder-backed Woodpecker,
American Dipper(along Grape Creek),and other pinon-juniper birds.A gold mining operation would put these
birds and the people who travel to view them at risk.
Cyanide is used to extract gold from rock.Cyanide-bearing mine waste solutions are associated with bird, bat,
and other wildlife deaths. Not to mention being hazardous to workers and the surrounding community.A spill or
a containment breach would threaten people, animals, and the environment. Our Pueblo members living
downstream from this proposed mine aren't happy about the water pollution inherent in mining of this type.
The Grape Creek Wilderness Study Area is adjacent to the proposed mine site.Wilderness Study Areas are
places that have wilderness characteristics, naturalness, isolation, solitude, and outstanding opportunities for
recreation. In addition to birders, anglers frequent Grape Creek because of the fishing opportunities there.A
gold mine-even an underground one-isn't conducive to'naturalness,'wilderness,or solitude.
Processing 300 tons of ore/day would require 65,000,000 gallons of water at a time when a water crisis is
looming for Colorado and the entire Southwest. Why should a Canadian company be allowed to consume our
water, contaminate our environment, kill our wildlife, and make lots of money doing it?
AVAS asks that this mining permit be denied.
Thank you.
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M122112211 or C123456789.
M2021046
