RECEIVED
Tim Cazier AUG 19 2021
CO DRMS
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 DIVISION OF FtLCLA,,'I.4TION
Denver, CO 80203 MININGAI4D SAFETY
RE: Support for the Pr Zephyr USA Ltd. Underground Gold Mine, Fremont County, CO.
Permit Nu ber M-2021-C46
Dear Mr. Cazier,
I am writing to express my support for the Zephyr USA Ltd. (Zephyr), Dawson Gold Mine project and join many
other citizens of Canon City and Fremont Co. that support the proposed environmentally responsible underground
gold mine in the Dawson Mountain area of Fremont County. I am asking that you approve the issuance of a mining
permit to Zephyr enabling the mine development to proceed in an environmentally responsible way.
Zephyr has in good faith embraced the stringent obligations and conditions embodied in the State and County
regulations that govern the operation of an underground mine and has developed a plan to assess and mitigate
any environmental impacts that may result. To not allow this development to proceed would not be in keeping with
the science-based assessment process and result in the loss of 90 potential new direct jobs and up to 300 new
indirect jobs. Clearly, these jobs would be a welcome economic boost to the area.
Zephyr has conducted its considerable exploration efforts in a responsible way and in compliance with material
regulations since 2013. The proposed operation being an underground mine with a very small footprint— i.e. no
_ open pits or waste rock dumps, as well_as being out of visual sight from Canon City means the mnHntain views ___
from town will not be impacted. In addition, as the mine project is located entirely on private lands, there will be no
impact on local hiking trails.
Colorado has a long history of producing minerals, including gold. We have an opportunity to continue to develop
these resource in an environmentally responsible way while making a positive economic impact in our
communities.
I encourage you to approve the issuance of a mining permit to Zephyr so Colorado's mining and quarrying industry
can continue to grow and create jobs for Coloradoans. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.
I look forward to hearing more about how this government's agencies are supporting much needed rural economic
development in Colorado.
Sincerely,
4
oovz0LLrtQ A[cLqon p
Name Printed Name Signed D to
