Division of Reclamation, Mining,and Safety
1313 Sherman Street
Room 215
Denver CO 80203 AUG 17 2021
August 12, 2021
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
RE: Permit No. M-2021-046
To Whom It May Concern:
As a resident of Dawson Ranch development in Canon City, Fremont County, I am writing in reference to the
Zephyr Gold USA Ltd. mining permit that has been filed.Although your Board does not address economic
concerns, these are high on the list among those objecting to the proposed mine. I see house and empty lot
prices that remain significantly high in our neighborhood, as all over town. I believe that Zephyr's mine will
have an overall positive influence on our local economy, and that they will restore the mining site responsibly
in the future. In helpful ways, they will leave our town better than they found it.
I trust the people at Zephyr and am in favor of their mining project request. In their plan,Zephyr has
repeatedly, clearly, and thoroughly addressed every concern that has been raised locally. They have been
always professional and cooperative. They are prompt and forthcoming when directly asked questions. For
example,we got a quick reply on a concern about possible sulfur smells;Zephyr explained that no sulfur at all
will be processed locally.
Some have objected strongly to this project due to their understandable fire danger and water purity
concerns, but these objections do not seem to stand up to scrutiny. Zephyr has filed documents at our local
County Clerk and Recorder's office. They have addressed each concern, in detail, in past meetings locally and in
our local newspaper. The science has been done. But people continue to rant.
Zephyr has hired a local professional environmental scientist who is dedicated to helping businesses get their
jobs done right, in ways that are safe for the ecosystem we are all concerned to protect. I feel that Fremont
County and its entire ecosystem are in safe hands, knowing that Zephyr has taken on the Dawson gold project.
Sincerely,
F
Elizabeth Kirby
Dawson Ranch resident
Canon City, Fremont County
