My main concern is the use of 65,000,000
gallons of water mixed with the release of 3600lbs of toxic chemicals into Grape Creek, which feeds the
Arkansas River. The western U.S.has been and will be in a serious drought for the unforeseeable future. The
Arkansas is one of 11 major rivers in the west that is in danger of drying up.eg,the Colorado, Pecos, Rio
grande,Canadian, Red river,to name a few. Extracting 65,000,000 gal.of water from water sources near Grape
Creek for mine use will further deplete and degrade the amount and quality of water for downstream users. The
need for drinking and agricultural water downstream needs to take precedent over mining and the potential
hazards of contamination should there be a containment failure such as the Gold King Mine spill in the Animas
River 5 years ago,The Gold King cleanup settlement paid by Sunnyside Gold Corp was$10,000,000. 1 have
not found any evidence that Zephyr Gold USA has the financial resources to cover potential contamination
spills let alone cover the expenses for remediation once the gold deposits are withdrawn and the site has been
shut down.
My stock research of Zephyr shows a current value of 14 cents per share, with a net income N/A, return on
equity N/A and return on assets of N/A. In other words at this time Zephyr Gold USA is not worth anything. The
majority of Zephyrs holdings are in the proposed Dawson project. It seems imperative to me that Zephyr Gold
USA needs to provide monetary assurances to Fremont County and the downstream users that it can an will
provide the necessary funds for future remediation and possible environmental catastrophes. In closing I
believe that a thorough and detailed environmental review of the actual availability of water and the potential
pollution concerns need to be addressed in detail before any permits are granted.
Sincerely, Mark Shipe
Permit Number*
Enter valid letter and then numbers, for example M122112211 or C123456789.
M2021046
Permitting Action Type
Select revision type or leave blank if comment pertains to a new permit application or NOI
Permit Type
mining permit M2021046
County
fremont
Site Name
Dawson Gold Mine
Perm ittee/Operator Name
Zephyr Gold USA LTD
