The status of the Elk Creek Mine is"active"however no coal is
being mined and the only activity since the last inspection was site maintenance.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE-Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2,4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,4.05.6;Discharge Structures 4.05.7,4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The summer had continued dry,with the exception of a few short-duration localized storms, and Elk
Creek was dry.A pool of water remained in Pond B.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover;Timing:
Work had begun to address the areas that were identified in the SL-5 bond release inspection as needing
further noxious weed treatment. The road from the Bear Creek road to GVB LW 3-01 and the pad itself had been
sprayed,but the road beyond(to GVB LW 4-03)had not.
SLIDES and DAMAGE -Rule 4.12:
A localized storm had caused a flash flood and mudslide in B-Gulch,with debris flowing across the old
highway immediately west of the Sanborn Creek ventilation facilities area.The debris had dried out,on the
surface at least, and was covering the CDOT culvert under the old highway. There is no current or historical mine-
related disturbance in B-Gulch and there were no impacts to any currently bonded-for acreage. Since the nearby
Sanborn Creek ventilation facilities area has received phase III bond release(with SL-4), and the mudslide debris
is not related to mining or reclamation,the Division would have no objection to the debris being moved to the old
sediment pond.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 2 of 7
