PERMIT#:M-1980-248
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS:RAR
INSPECTION DATE:July 1,2021
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety normal
monitoring program. The Lyons Pit No. 2 is a 112c permitted site. It is located approximately five miles east
of Craig, Colorado, and accessed from Highway 394 through the Lyon's family ranch. The pit is referred to
by the locals as the Charchallis Pit. Tim Gilldine represented Moffat County and accompanied Robin Reilley
of The Division on the inspection.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule
3.1.12. The sign is located at the entrance of the pit area. The perimeter has been marked with t-posts to
clearly delineate permit boundaries. Key corners are marked with posts stating "permit boundary".
Topsoil and overburden piles are clearly marked with signage to prevent accidental loss. Topsoil is stored
on the south and west boundaries atop unmined land. In the future these stockpiles may be moved to
make additional land mineable. Topsoil piles grow more vegetation on north facing slopes than on south
facing slopes.
The site was inactive at the time of the inspection and is utilized less than 180 days per year. No equipment
or fuel is stored on site. Several stockpiles are located on the pit floor. Intermittently stockpiled material is
trucked off on an as needed basis. Slopes are no steeper than a 3:1.
The eastern portion of the pit has been graded. The landowner wishes to seed this area to add it to his fields.
The west facing slope adjacent to this reclamation has some rilling and drains ino the the pit posing no threat
or the possibility of offsite impacts. No standing water was observed at the time of inspection.
The operator is the County government agency therefore no bond is held. No problems or violations were
noted during this inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to: Robin Reilley at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO 80203. Direct contact can be made by phone
at or via email at robin.reilley@ state.co.us
r l _
~ M
Permit boundary
Mine Id sign markers
Map 1: Overview of the operation.
