All review and <br />comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules <br />and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining initiate from this <br />date of filing. <br /> <br />Through this permit revision, New Elk Coal Company seeks to expand the permit boundary east and <br />north of the current boundary by 2,856 acres for Blue Seam Mining. The applicant is not proposing <br />additional surface disturbance outside of the area currently approved for disturbance. <br /> <br />The underground coal mining operation is located approximately 25 miles West of Trinidad, <br />Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br /> <br />Township 33 South, Range 68 West, in sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. A reclaimed <br />vent shaft is located in Township 33 South, Range 67 West, in Section 19. These sections can be <br />located on the USGS 7.5 minute Vigil and Weston quadrangle maps. The Jansen Loadout is also <br />part of Permit C-1981-012 and is approximately 2 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado in Township 33 <br />South, Range 64 West, in sections 22 and 27. These sections can be located on the USGS 7.5 minute <br />Trinidad quadrangle map. <br />
