PERMIT#: M-1974-004
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: June 17,2021
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection of the Specification Aggregate Quarry, a 112c construction materials
operation operated by Martin Mareitta (MM). The site is located on the west side of Hwy 40 approximately 3
miles south of Golden CO and approximately% mile north of Interstate 70. This is a 325 acre site which
produces primarily construction aggregate, although there are also asphalt and concrete batch plants located
in the SE corner of the permit area. The current post mining land use for the site is rangeland, and the SEC) has
determined that the open water lake area in the north pit area of the permit (photo 1) meets the standards
for a "lined reservoir". This inspection was conducted by Eric Scott, Tim Cazier, and Michael Cunningham of
DRMS who were accompanied on-site by Phillip Courtney of MM. DRMS completed a brief site specific safety
training presentation at the site office prior to the inspection.
During the inspection DRMS noted that the site, on the whole, appeared to be very well managed as was in
compliance with the approved mining and reclamation plans. Dust and weed control efforts will need to be
maintained as appropriate. There are excellent concurrent reclamation activities completed and underway in
the south area of the pit (photo 2), and the working areas are maintained well. During this inspection all
material removal and reclamation was taking part in the south pit area working from east to west. Material
removal was taking place on the west side (photo 3), drill holes were being loaded for a blast near the center
of the area (photo 4), and the eastern portion of the area was being stripped and prepped for drilling the next
bench level (photo 5). Additionally, some scaling work had recently been completed in a limited part of the
northeast wall area to remove some unstable material (photo 6).
Care will need to be taken to prevent stockpiled material from leaving the permitted area on the north end of
the site, but only one problem was noted during the inspection as listed on the first page of this report. The
large number of smaller containers that have been placed in the secondary containment of the fueling station
will need to be removed and appropriately stored in another location or disposed of properly by the corrective
action date.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
