0-IR 1Y SILVER MIAVES
chemicals maybe stored in multiple locations;the Reagent Room currently under
review and the existingReagent Room area within the mill building. The focus of
TR-14 is on the Reagent Buildingto be constructed, while the reagent room of the
mill building was certified under the MillCertification submitted on November 17,
2015, that certification as a whole has been nullified. If the reagent room of the
mill building is to be used for storage address the following:
a. Clarify the maximum amount of reagents to be stored within the mill
building reagent room. Rule 6.4.21(5) and 6.4.21(6)(b)(i),
b. Their location within mill building reagent room,
c. Provide supporting documentation to ensure the secondary containment
capacity is sufficient for the room as a whole and details regarding any
individual secondary containment structures that prevent possible mixing.
Response:
a. OSMI anticipates that there could be a small amount of chemicals stored in the
old reagent room in the mill filter building. This would be done on an as needed
basis if the chemicals need to be removed from the reagent room for maintenance
or similar activity. The old reagent room would be used as a staging area rather
than storage area. As noted in response to 5.c below, there is sufficient secondary
containment volume in the old reagent room to accommodate chemical storage.
b. The chemicals will be placed just inside of the garage doors that access the old
reagent room.
c. The old reagent room of the mill filter building is roughly 60 z25'and has an 8"
curb for containment, plus a 50-gallon sump. This room has approximately 8,500
gallons of secondary containment. As noted above, the old reagent room will be
used for temporary staging of chemicals as needed. The chemicals will be placed
on spill pallets to prevent mixing.
6. Please provide a more detailed explanation of Table 6.
Response: Table 6 was included in response to 2c of the Preliminary Adequacy Review (PAR).
The mine was asked to explicitly state the day use rate of each chemical. The chemicals are
consumed by the amount of ore that is processed in the mill, which fluctuates on a daily basis.
The mine inadvertently did not elaborate on the table in the PAR response. Table 6 was provided
to show the amount of reagent used per short ton of ore processed and the size of the packaging
containers in which the reagents are shipped.
7. Several of the chemicals are toxic to aquatic life, even the 10%tailings of the 10%
51Pa z
