Most of the area has <br />been mapped as dryland agricultural. It also includes some natural openings in pinyon -juniper woodland. <br />There are many roads and oil wells in the area. This represents areas that are occupied by prairie dogs and adjacent open level areas that <br />may be colonized in the future. <br />Primary Area 11,091.52 Acres 4,488.60 Hectares <br />SITE SIGNIFICANCE <br />Biodiversity Significance Rank B5: General Biodiversity Interest <br />Biodiversity Significance Comments <br />The site supports four unranked (E) sub -populations of Gunnison's prairie dog, a species that is globally <br />secure (G5/S5), but of concern because of recent declines.
