COLORADO
a Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
May 19,2021
Alexander McCurdy
PO Box 566
Florence,CO 81226
Re: Southfield Mine(Permit No. C-1981-014)
Bond Release No. 5 (SL-5)
Dear Mr.McCurdy:
This letter, as required by Rule 3.03.2(1) of the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining, is to inform you that the Division of
Reclamation,Mining and Safety(Division) has begun the process of terminating its
jurisdiction over the Southfield Mine. This notice will be published in the Canon City Daily
Record as soon as possible .
The Southfield Mine is a formerly permitted coal mining operation located in Fremont
County, approximately 10 miles south of Florence, Colorado. The Southfield Mine was
operated by Energy Fuels Coal,Inc. The Mined Land Reclamation Board revoked the
operating permit and forfeited the reclamation bond in 2018. As provided for in Colorado
Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, the Division normally assumes the task
of performing reclamation of the site. However, reclamation has been performed at the
Southfield Mine by Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. which the Division has continued inspecting and
monitoring since the date of revocation.
Written comments, objections and requests for an informal conference or a formal public
hearing before the Mined Land Reclamation Board may be submitted to the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO
80203 within 30 days of this letter.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Zach Trujillo
Environmental Protection Specialist
(303) 866-3567 ext. 8164
Zach.Trujillogstate.co.us
OF COlO
n O
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us *
Jared S.
