Mica Lode, Permit M-1977-144,Technical Revision
Exhibit D—Mining Plan
General Mining Plan specifications:
1. Mining will be carried out so as to create stable slopes (i.e., 2.5H:1V or gentler) or benched
highwalls,wherever possible.
2. Backfilling depressions with reject materials generated onsite, and surface grading of emplaced
backfill materials, will be carried out concurrent to mining activities in the permit.
3. Extraction and backfilling will proceed in an orderly manner throughout the mining phases, and
be carried out in the manner of incremental concurrent reclamation, in order to reduce the
amount of required post-mining grading and shaping.
4. Topsoil will be salvaged wherever possible, and protected for later use in reclamation. Topsoil is
thin to non-existent in many areas of this permit, so every effort will be made to also salvage
and utilize appropriate subsoil, overburden and fine material as growth media.
5. Stripping soil and vegetation in advance of mining will proceed carefully and in a limited
manner,to minimize overall surface disturbance. Wherever possible, woody materials from
trees and shrubs that are stripped will be stockpiled to be spread later during final reclamation.
6. At any point during the life of the mine, any areas of the permit which will not be further
disturbed will be scheduled for final reclamation (e.g.,grading, soil, seeding) in a timely manner.
7. Any area of the permit will be deemed ready for final reclamation when: its slopes or benches
meet the specifications above, all stockpiles of saleable materials have been removed,
processing equipment and/or structures have been removed, all explosives and/or fuel
materials in said area have been removed, and backfill materials have been adequately
emplaced.
8. The permit will be regularly monitored to control noxious weeds and contain/remove
contaminants.
Mining plan details of the individual affected areas of the permit.
For clarity, naming of the individual areas in this revision mostly conforms to the names previously used
in permit documents. Please refer to the Mine Plan Map in Exhibit C, which complements the
descriptions contained below.
Ruby Pit
Area: 6.12 acres.
This is an active pit in the NE part of the permit. The acreage of this area has been expanded under this
revision to allow future extraction. Mining will continue in this pit, toward the south, west, and east.
Depending on quality and market for the mined materials that are encountered as the pit floor is
deepened, this pit may be developed as a pond. If it becomes a pond, slopes will be created to comply
with Rule 3.1.5(7). The pond surface will be 1.0 acre or less.
All work as described in mine plan requires removing saleable product. We intend to initially finish laying
back the west wall, then extract from the south and east walls.
All mining is done in such a manner as to reduce the highwall gradient. This will be complete when all
slopes have been mined to 3:1 and the east end of the pit floor meets the (permanent) Road 383B at the
same approximate elevation. As part of slope reduction, there may be limited amounts of oversize
materials backfilled in the pit and covered during reclamation.
No mining is planned for the portion of this area located east of Road 383B.
