6 .4 . 8 Exhibit H
Wildlife Information
Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife (CDOPW) provided comment in a
September 2, 2012 correspondence describing potential impacts, recommended
survey protocol and actions to protect nesting burrowing owls and a golden eagle
nest. Quentin Springer of CDOPW visited the site with a property owner on
September 2, 2012 and confirmed on October 29, 2015 that the comments remained
appropriate for the site. The prairie dog colony in which burrowing owls may nest is
on property owned by Doug Thacker to the west of the subject property. Prairie dog
burrows were not observed on the subject property. The golden eagle nest is located
outside the proposed permit boundary. The radius of impact to the nest does not
include the mesas but does include a portion of the haul road.
Fremont will monitor the area for prairie dog communities, burrowing owl
nests and golden eagle nests during mining.
The Colorado Natural Heritage Program at Colorado State University
performed a database search for rare and threatened species. The report is
provided.
10
