ERC West Farm Pit Expansion Project Site
Aquatic Resource Delineation Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report summarizes the delineation of aquatic resources completed by Ecological Resource
Consultants, Inc. (ERC)for the West Farm Pit Expansion Project Site (survey area). The survey area subject
of this aquatic resource delineation is defined as an approximately 957-acre portion within the Mine
Permit Boundary of the Prowers Aggregate Operations West Farm Pit(WFP Facility).
ERC conducted a formal routine onsite delineation of aquatic resources within the approximately 957-
acre survey area located east of the Town of Lamar, Prowers County, Colorado on November 5, 2020
(Figures 1 and 2).A total of 36.70 acres(1,984 linear feet)of aquatic resources were identified and mapped
within the survey area characterized as riverine (R4SBCx)wetland habitat, palustrine emergent persistent
temporary flooded (PEM1a) wetland habitat, palustrine emergent nonpersistent seasonally flooded
(PEM2c) wetland habitat, and riverine lower perennial unconsolidated bottom intermittently exposed
excavated (R2UBGx) wetland habitat. Five aquatic resources were identified in the survey area and were
mapped as Aquatic Resource A, B, C, D, and E. Aquatic Resource A is an irrigation ditch located in the
central portion of the mine and runs west to east. It flows to a large retention pond located in the central
portion of the survey area. Aquatic Resource B is a freshwater emergent wetland. Hydrology within this
aquatic resource is supported by pumped water from existing mining operations within the WFP Facility.
Aquatic Resource B terminates within the north portion of the survey area by rising topographical features.
Aquatic Resource C is the continuation of Aquatic Resource A. Aquatic Resource D is a low depression
situated north of County Road HH 8/10. It is bounded on all sides by upland topography and vegetation.
Hydrology within Aquatic Resource D is supported by a mechanical pumping system that pumps water
from Aquatic Resource C during the growing season. Aquatic Resource E is a perennial stream that flows
to the east and joins the Arkansas River located directly northeast of the survey. During the site visit on
November 5, 2020 conducted by ERC, irrigation was not occurring throughout any of the survey area.
However, flowing water in areas was observed within the Aquatic Resource E stream channel along the
Highway 50 right-of-way. Refer to Figure 3 for an approximate geographic overview of the offsite drainages
to the Arkansas River.
All areas that have been investigated in the field are mapped on the enclosed Aquatic Resource Delineation
Map (Appendix A).
