NEW ELK COAL <br />COMPANY <br />PUBLIC NOTICE <br />New Elk Coal Company LLC, 12550 Highway 12, Weston, CO 81091, the operator <br />of the Lorencito Canyon Mine, Permit number C-96-084, has filed an application <br />for the transfer of Permit C-96-084 for the Lorenctio Canyon Mine with the State <br />of Colorado, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Ownership of New Elk <br />Coal Company LLC has changed. <br />The Lorencito Canyon Mine is located approximately 20 miles west of Trinidad, <br />Colorado on State hwy. 12 in Township 33 and 34 South, Range 66 West, Section <br />33 and other uplatted lands on the Hill Ranch. The Hill Ranch is gnenerally located <br />southeast of Weston Colorado between the South Fork of the Purgatoire River on <br />the west, Highway 12 on the north, Lorencito Canyon on the east and Little <br />Alamosa Canyon on the south. These lands can be located on the USGS 7.5 <br />minute Little Pine topographical quadrangle maps. A total of 384.00 acres are <br />permitted and there is 129.30 of surface disturbance from mining related activity <br />is covered by a Letter of Credit Bond and Cash Bond in the amount of <br />$927,121.00. <br />A copy of the permit application and transfer documents is available at the Las <br />Animas County Courthouse, Office of County Recorder (200 East First St., <br />Trinidad, Colorado) and with the Division on the Division of Reclamation, Mining <br />and Safety website for public inspection.
