Calculation of 90% of the area weighted cover performance standard appropriate for 2016 sampling is
demonstrated below:
Aspen Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 74.6%
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 44.9%
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 36.4%
Steep Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable All -Hit Herbaceous Cover' = 28.2%
Herbaceous cover adjusted by subtracting noxious weeds and annual/biennial plant cover in excess of 10% of the remainder.
90% of the Cover Standard =
0.90- [0.244(74.6%) +0.489(44.9%) +0.24(36.4%) +0.027(28.2%)] = 44.7%
The mean allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover sampled in the BRB-2a was 48.4%, exceeding
44.7%, which is 90% of the area -weighted cover performance standard (see also Figure B-1 a, Table B-1).
Thus, successful revegetation with respect to allowable all -hit herbaceous cover is demonstrated.
BRB-3 Cover
As described above, a direct comparison of reclaimed area mean to standard is allowed under DRMS
rules (CDMG 2005 revised rule, 4.15.11 (2)(a)) when sample adequacy has been demonstrated for the
reclaimed and reference areas, each with a minimum of 15 samples. Sample adequacy based on
allowable herbaceous all -hit cover values was achieved for BRB-3 and the reference area, each with a
minimum of 15 samples. Thus, a direct comparison will be used to determine success.
The mean allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover sampled in BRB-3 was 48.2%, exceeding 24.7%,
which is 90% of the cover performance standard (see also Figure B-1 a, Table B-1). Thus, successful
revegetation with respect to allowable all -hit herbaceous cover is demonstrated.
SPECIES DIVERSITY AND COMPOSITION
BRB-2a Diversity Tests
With regard to Mandatory Test A, that no single species comprise greater than 60% relative cover in the
2016 BRB-2a, Table G-1 shows that the most abundant single species, alfalfa (Medicago sativa), was
15.7% relative all -hit cover, well below the 60% threshold of concern.
Hence Mandatory Test A is Passed for BRB-2a data.
17
