The control points should be monitored weekly, after the initial installation. After several
months of monitoring, the results should be reviewed by GEI for signs of slope movement.
Depending on this review, the slope monitoring frequency can be adjusted up or down.
It should be noted that Aggregate Industry has contracted with GEI to implement a
monitoring program within the South Quarry. As mining within the West Quarry progresses,
the South Quarry monitoring program should be expanded to cover active areas of the West
Quarry as well.
8.3 Highwall Reclamation Recommendations
The following inexpensive and simple techniques should be incorporated into the South and
West Quarry Reclamation Plan and will assist in reducing the potential for rockfall hazard.
On benches above El. 7,000 feet where topsoil backfilling and revegetation is permit
required, several rockfall benches should be left open for rockfill catchment. GEI envisions
this consisting of a 5 to 10-foot zone free of reclamation material every three to four(3 to 4)
benches. This material free zone would reduce the potential for isolated rockfall from
traveling down slope and propagating down to the active mine areas, reducing the risk to
mine personnel and infrastructure.
Quarterly scaling of final slopes below El. 7,000 feet will reduce the potential for overhead
hazards. Machine scaling identifies instability in rocks within the highwall and removes the
hazard utilizing various techniques under a controlled environment.
44
Aggregate Industries—Morrison Quarry GEI Consultants, Inc
AM-07 Geotechnical Stability Exhibit November 2020
