gneiss. Samples from the boring were submitted for laboratory testing including Moisture
Density Relationships, Unconfined Compressive Strength with Young's Modulus, Direct
Shear, and Slake Durability.
3.1.2 2017 Geotechnica/Explorations
Al performed a subsurface exploration to characterize the bedrock in the South Quarry as
part of a 3D model development for the South Quarry. A total of four(4) boreholes were
advanced using NQ wireline coring methods (identified as MQ-1-17 through MQ-4-17). The
boreholes were advanced to depths of 572 feet, 487 feet, 250 feet, 500.5 feet, respectively.
Borings were located throughout the South Quarry and advanced between April 24, 2017 and
May 9, 2017.
Boring MQ-1-17 was advanced to a depth of 572 feet and encountered granitic and biotitic
gneiss with some pegmatite intrusions and sillimanitic gneiss. Boring MQ-2-17 was
advanced to a depth of 487 feet and encountered granitic and biotitic gneiss with some
pegmatite intrusions. Boring MQ-3-17 was advanced to a depth of 250 feet and encountered
granitic gneiss with some pegmatite intrusions. Boring MQ-4-17 was advanced to a depth of
500.5 feet and encountered granitic and biotitic gneiss with some pegmatite intrusions.
3.1.3 2018 Geotechnica/Explorations
Al performed an additional subsurface exploration to characterize the bedrock in the South
and West Quarries, which was performed to develop 3D subsurface models. A total of five
(5) boreholes were advanced using NQ wireline coring methods (identified as M-1-18
through M-5-18) and were drilled between April 11, 2018 and May 7, 2018. One boring was
located within the South Quarry and the remaining borings were located throughout the West
Quarry. Al provided general drilling oversight and GEI logged the core recovery and strata.
Boring M-1-18 was advanced to a depth of 593.5 feet and encountered granitic, biotitc, and
sillimanitic gneiss with some pegmatite intrusions. Boring M-2-18 was advanced to a depth
of 297 feet inclined at 30' from vertical and encountered granitic and biotite with some
pegmatite intrusions. Boring M-3-18 was advanced to a depth of 380 feet inclined at 15'
from vertical and encountered granitic, biotitc, and sillimanitic gneiss with some pegmatite
intrusions. Boring M-4-18 was advanced to a depth of 270 feet and encountered granitic,
biotitc, and sillimanitic gneiss with some pegmatite intrusions. Boring M-5-18 was advanced
to a depth of 340 feet and encountered granitic, biotitc, and sillimanitic gneiss with some
pegmatite intrusions.
11
Aggregate Industries—Morrison Quarry GEI Consultants, Inc.
AM-07 Geotechnical Stability Exhibit November 2020
