Separately, I will be
mailing a flash drive with PDF images of the approved dig site within the claim, both before and after
reclamation.
For starters, my efforts thus far have proven to me there is not enough economic value to continue the
digging effort. Only a small quantity of usable peridot crystals were found. Three to be exact. "Usable"
in this case means crystals large enough to cut/facet into gemstones for use in my jewelry
enterprise. Peridot is a fairly inexpensive gemstone, and given the size of the crystals I found, I could
have just as easily purchased three gemstones the exact size I found and cut at far less cost and
time. Given this, and the other news from Amy, I have stopped all digging effort and reclaimed the
specific area that I disturbed.
As I described in my application for a reclamation permit, I filled the hole I dug as I moved along the
boundary of the permitted area. Per the attached Mining Plan Map and Mine Reclamation Map (taken
from my reclamation permit application) I dug a hole in Sub-quadrant#1 and set the dirt in Sub-
quadrant#20. Then, as I dug into Sub-quadrant#2, 1 would simply turn around backward and sift the
dirt into Sub-quadrant#1. This effectively allowed me to partially reclaim there I had dug as I went
along. My plan worked out perfectly as there was only one small hole to fill at the end. I then
compressed the area disturbed, raked it,seeded it with the prescribed seed and raked it again. Come
springtime, there should be a lot of grass growing there, assuming we get enough rain. The original
vegetation which I replanted should come back as well. Further, 1 have removed all stakes and flags. In
my opinion, it will be very difficult to determine where I actually dug.
Math wise, I was approved fora 25'x 50'area to dig. I dug in only three Sub-sections (5'x 5'each)
which represents 6%of the approved square footage. Total square footage permitted was 1,250' or.03
acres. The actual area disturbed was 75 square feet or.0017 acres. The depth of my digging averaged
1.5'. So the cubic area disturbed was 1,125 cubic feet, all of which has been replaced/reclaimed.
