5b-5) Whether aquifers will be encountered (include supporting references);
Information comes via a drill program completed with Lorencito Permit (C-1996-084). The
Vermejo and Raton Formations are typically discussed as on aquifer system due to the complex
nature of the structure units. Correlation of the aquifer units is very difficult due to the lack of
lateral continuity common to these units. The best water-bearing zones in the formations are the
coal units. In addition, this study also indicates the next best water bearing zones in the formation
are the channel sands. Generally, the zones are described as being confined with low hydraulic
conductivities, and very low yields. GW-10 Lorencito Canyon Mine Aquifer Test Data shows
data for the aquifers for water monitoring wells located throughout the Lorencito Tract.
