MCC is currently mining longwall panel SS and flaring gas from the SS1-5 borehole. A fire
box with extinguishers and hand tools was on site. Mine staff was on site monitoring the mobile
flare unit. The flare is fully automated and shuts itself off when methane concentrations in the
gob reach 25% in order to ensure gas concentration remains well above the explosive range of 5
— 15%. The flare has been running for approximately the last 48 hours at this location. Methane
concentrations at the mining face and open underground areas are held below the explosive range
through positive a pressure ventilation system.
All observed office, shop, parking, and storage yards were orderly and well -maintained.
Rules: 4.05.5 and 4.05.6: Sediment Control Measures and Sedimentation Ponds
Mine staff indicated that sediment control hay bales had recently been replaced in SS areas but
had already been destroyed by cattle. This was evident in multiple locations, although some did
remain intact.
Mine vent borehole pads have nonstructural sediment control structures consisting of native
brush piled along pad outslopes. No off -site sedimentation problems were noted at any pad area
during this inspection.
Rule 4.06: Topsoil
All observed topsoil and subsoil stockpiles were stable and marked as required. Straw wattles are
used for sediment control around the base of stockpiles. No problems were noted.
Programmatic Compliance:
No enforcement actions were initiated during this inspection. Cessation Order CO-2020-001
remains in effect for surface activities above longwall panels SS3 and SS4.
2 1 P a g e
