•
In accordance with 4.15.1(5), HGTI has developed a Weed Management Plan that describes the
management approach. This plan is presented in Attachment 20-1, Loadout Weed Management
Plan. This plan has been developed in consultation with the Routt County Cooperative
Extension Service and Routt County Weed Department.
The Weed Management Plan includes three basic components: 1) a weed inventory (survey) to
identify noxious weed species; 2) prevention and control to prevent the spread of existing
infestations and stop new infestations from becoming established; and, 3) monitoring and
reporting. If chemical treatment is needed, chemicals will be applied by qualified
personnel following label instructions.
Controlled areas will be monitored for the effectiveness of the control technique(s). If
necessary, follow-up treatment will be made to achieve the desired control. In treatment
areas where control of weeds has been successful but the density of desirable perennial
vegetation is low, reseeding with an appropriate permanent mix will be done. Records of
herbicides applications (type and rate), area treated, and dates of treatment will be
maintained at the operations office. Weed control activities, including the weed inventory
map, will be reported each year in the annual reclamation report.
Pest control is not anticipated, If infestations occur which jeopardize successful
reclamation, a pest control plan will be developed for the targeted pest. The plan will be
developed in consultation with the CDMG and CDOW.
Regrading or Stabilizing of Rills and Gullies.
Seeded areas will be monitored following spring snowmelt and heavy rains. if monitoring
indicates the presence of excessive rills and gullies, closer observation will attempt to
determine the cause of the gullying. These areas will be identified on a map.
Natural geomorphic processes in the reclaimed area will be emphasized, taking into account
slope, aspect, and soil conditions of the site. Further consideration will be given to the
normal climatic patterns and rate of vegetation establishment and development in the subject
area. Evaluation will include whether the rills and gullies will prohibit successful
revegetation or will disrupt achievement of the postmining land use,
TR-07 7 Revised 03106
