Summary <br /> The Review Process <br /> Initiation of Renewal <br /> The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division)notified Peabody Sage Creek <br /> Mining, LLC. on November 1st, 2019 that the existing Permit for the Sage Creek Mine would <br /> expire on August 20, 2020. PSC responded on February 19, 2020 with an application for permit <br /> renewal. The Division deemed the Application complete on February 25, 2020. <br /> Public Notice <br /> Public notice of submittal of the Application was published four times in The Steamboat Pilot <br /> between March 1, 2020 and March 22, 2020. Notice that the Application was considered <br /> complete for the purposes of filing was provided by the Division, in accordance with Title 34, <br /> Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes. <br /> No objections regarding the application were received. <br /> Application Reviews and Responses <br /> The Application was reviewed for adequacy, and the Division identified eight items requiring <br /> updates in a letter to PSC (dated April 24, 2020). PSC provided acceptable responses to all items <br /> on July 30, 2020. <br /> The Office of Surface Mining's Applicant Violator System (AVS) was queried on March 27, <br /> 2020 and the recommendation of the system was to provide ownership and control updates. A <br /> follow-up AVS query was conducted on August 18th, 2020 and resulted in a recommendation to <br /> issue this RN-2 renewal. <br /> Description of the Environment <br /> The Peabody Sage Creek Mine (PSCM) is an underground mine located in Routt County, <br /> approximately 9 miles southeast of the town of Hayden, Colorado. The Peabody Sage Creek <br /> Mine is currently in temporary cessation status. When the mine was established it utilized <br /> continuous miners for entry and development work. The permit area encompasses <br /> approximately 10,164 acres of which 1,766.4 acres were previously disturbed and portions <br /> reclaimed by Seneca Coal Company (SCC)under the Seneca II Mine (CDRMS permit C-1980- <br /> 005). The total disturbance acreage per the 2019 Annual Reclamation Report is 1844. No new <br /> disturbance has occurred since the last Renewal RN-1. <br /> The permit area varies in elevation from 6,600'to 7,800'with the portal openings at 6,690' along <br /> Little Grassy Creek. The main mine facilities lie in Sections 2 and 3, Township 5 North, Range <br /> 8 West and Sections 27, 34, and 35, Township 6 North, Range 87 West of the 6th Principal <br /> 3 <br />
