Seneca II -W, C-1982-057, SL7 Veg Review
July 30, 2020
Page 4of5
The 2016 upland shrub plot met statistical sample adequacy and exceeded the woody plant standard
for 2016.
Woody plant success standards were achieved for the 2016 sample data for background and the three
concentrated shrub communities.
Species Diversity:
Seneca II West has several different criteria for determining reclamation success for species diversity.
Mandatory standard A requires that no one species comprise greater than 60% relative cover.
For 2015 data Table J-1 demonstrates that the most abundant single species was Western wheatgrass
(Pascopyrum smithii) with 23.7% relative cover. This is acceptable for 2015.
Alternate Diversity Standard B: 75% species distribution in the combined weighted reference area.
=26.8 sp. Per 100 sq Meters. Probabilty adjusted to 20.2 sp. 2015 BR -B-3 Adjusted to remove noxious
species=24.8 sp/100 sq. M.
The BRB-3 met Alternate Test B for 2015.
Alternate Diversity Test C: The similarity index. Refer to table J-7 for the 2015 data. The Similarity
index between the lifeform species density for prescribed lifeforms for the 2015 BRB-3 and the Mean
Species Density for the acreage weighted reference area is 73%. This value exceeds 90% of the
standard of 70% (0.9 X 70% =63%). Therefore, Alternate Diversity Test C was successful for BR -B-
3 for 2015.
Alternate Diversity Test D: The total number of native species in an adequate sample of 2015 BRB-3
herbaceous cover was 39. The total number of native species in an adequate sample of 2015 weighted
reference area herbaceous cover was 23.6. The BRB-3 native species exceeded that of the 2015
Weighted Reference Area, so Alternate Diversity Test D is considered successful for 2015.
For 2015 BRB-3, Mandatory Test A passed, alternate species diversity tests, B, C and D passed as
well. The BR -B-3 is considered successful for species diversity for 2015.
For 2016:
Mandatory standard A requires that no one species comprise greater than 60% relative cover.
For 2016 data Table J-5 demonstrates that the most abundant single species was Alfalfa (Medicago
sativa) with 28.6% relative cover. This is acceptable for 2016.
Alternate Diversity Standard B: 75% species distribution in the combined weighted reference area.
=27.97 sp. Per 100 sq Meters for 2016. Probabilty adjusted to 22.2 sp. 2016 BRB-3 Adjusted to
remove noxious species=24.1 sp/100 sq. M.
The BRB-3 met Alternate Test B for 2016.
