6.4.10 EXHIBIT J—Vegetative Information
The vegetation map included in this application shows four vegetative types over the site. The
River wash alluvium will be left un-disturbed and is of little consequence to reclamation in this
case. The primary vegetative type will be Kim Prairie, which dominates the affected land area.
The Breaks refer to vegetation communities that have developed along gravel exposed banks
formed by ancient stream deposition and erosion cycles resulting in definitive "breaks" in
topography. These 20 foot high gravel banks are evident along the east side of the main haul
road and will not be mined due to proximity to the east boundary of the affected land for the
first 1000 feet from the gate entrance. South of that distance, the gravel bank has already been
removed by mining. This area will be reclaimed as Kim Prairie vegetative type with a mixture of
grama and wheat grasses.
While a few trees and shrub species can be found especially along the remaining breaks area,
the number and variety of wood species is too limited to have any impact pre-existing wildlife
habitat sitewide. Dry land grasses and cacti by far dominate the vegetation present.
As listed in detail in the reclamation exhibit, the grass species noted by NRCS specialists and
recommended by them include:
Thickspike or Western Wheatgrass
Sideoats grama
Blue grama
Indian ricegrass
Sand dropseed
Little bluestem
These species, subject to availability, will be used in proportion as recommended by NRCS.
