General Shale
Building The American Dream®
the pit south of the mine pit pond. The broken-down grog will be blended with fresh grog to
minimize dust.
Grog may also be stockpiled at the south end of pit as a location to dispose of grog from the
brick plant.
Then when reclamation begins, we will place the grog into the pit. We do not anticipate any
settling and voids due to the placement of these materials because the grog will be placed in 1-5-
foot lifts, blended with the current overburden materials and compacted. The scrap brick will be
hauled starting in August 2020.
These materials will not impact surface water runoff quality, because these materials do not
contain contaminants, and local area storm water runoff is diverted away from the mine
disturbed area. The grog will not contaminate ground water because it has been fired to a high
temperature. Further, these materials will not be placed below the saturated zone.
Dust Abatement Plan
Please see attached dust abatement plan
Allowance of scrap brick for stabilization of overburden-interburden stockpiles
GSB would like to utilize grog to cover the slopes of the interburden-overburden stockpiles as an
alternative to tackifier. This would only be done on slopes that face the interior of the mine and
away from the houses.
Plan for Current Overburden Stockpile, Topsoil Stockpile, and Associated Stormwater
Ditch Dust Mitigation and Seeding
The proposed maintenance and seeding plan are as follows:
1. July or early August 2020, when mowing contractor is available, mow the weeds on the
overburden stockpile, topsoil stockpile, and ditch area. Getting rid of the weeds now
rather than later should help the native vegetation establish itself
2. Cover with tackifier any bare spots that are missing tackifier or areas disturbed by
mowing with tackifier in July or August 2020 after mowing. The area north of the white
sand clay stockpile will be covered with tackifier because this area is starting to grow
grass.
3. Spray magnesium chloride dust suppressant in July or August 2020 on the clay stockpile
pad areas.
4. Review the area in September 2020 to determine what is needed to continue establishing
the grass. This could include
a. Overseeding
b. Fertilizing
c. Herbicide application for weeds
General Shale, 1845 West Dartmouth Avenue, Denver Colorado 80110 Page 2 of 5
T: 1-800-477-9002 1 F: 1-303-781-1818 1 www.generalshale.com
