Pinon Ridge Mining LLC
P.O. Box 825
Nucla, CO 81424-0825 RECEIVE,)
970-864-2125 JUL 7 2020
')!VISION OF REC
MINING&SATION
ETY
July 14, 2020
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Attention: Dustin Czapla, Environmental Protection Specialist
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Van 4 Shaft, Permit#M-1997-032, Notice to Commence Final Reclamation
Dear Mr. Czapla,
In response to your letter dated July 7, 2020, reclamation at the Van 4 Mine started in late
March 2020 as ordered by the Mine Land Reclamation Board. At that time, metal siding was
removed from the buildings.
Shortly after reclamation started, Colorado was ordered to cease all but essential activities.
Therefore, Pinon Ridge Mining LLC ceased reclamation until that order was lifted by the State of
Colorado. Reclamation continued in late June 2020 with the removal of the metal siding from the
larger building. The steel structure of the larger building was scheduled to be cut apart in early
July. However, by Order of the Montrose County Commissioner, no open flame devices could be
used in the County because of the extreme fire dangers. Steel cutting torches are required to
dismantle the steel structures. The structures must be removed before the hoist can be removed.
Once the extreme fire threat is past and the Order lifted, Pinon Ridge will immediately
continue with the demolition of the buildings, the removal of the hoist and the removal of the
headframe and related facilities. The shaft will be sealed and all surface reclamation is expected
to be completed by mid-2021.
Sincerely
E* 4-P,
George E.7asier, President
Priority Mail
