PROPOSAL FOR CLOSING PORTALS OF APEX MINE.
1. We will purchase polyurethane foam from foam concepts; [http://www.foamconceptslic.com/]
PART EFS005.This is a two component all PDMI based low density pour in place foam. This
product is being used as recommended by the Colorado State Mine Closure Consultants at the
mine site July 20th, 2018. [material specs attached]
2. Material will be transported to the mine via pickup trucks. Material comes in sealed plastic bags
inside of cardboard boxes. There will be a total of 7 boxes, at 1 cubic yard per box.We will have
5 persons working throughout the closure process.
3. At the Mine we will extract all existing timbers within safety of doing so. We will construct a
backer wall approximately 64" from the drip edge of the entrance. The wall will act as a backing
for the foam as per specs by foam concepts LLC.The wall be constructed of 2x4 lumber, with a
1' lumber facing.Wall does not need to be anchored, (according to the manufactures
guidelines) Foam expands to side of mine wall and adheres to wall. Also, per conversation with
Travis Marshall (supervisor at Colorado mine reclamation office)
4. As there is no signs of water in the mine a drain will not be put in per recommendation of
consultants on site July 201h, 2018.
5. Foam material will be mixed at manufactures guidelines following all safety procedures. The
foam will be layered in 18" increments, allowing the foam to set and cool 30 minutes between
each pour. This is the procedure guidelines by the manufacturer. As each layer is poured natural
rock will be added to the face for natural appearance. This will take approximately 3 days to
complete this task to seal the mine closed.
6. When closure has reached ceiling and cooled, Ready mix mortar(transported by pickup from
town to mine site in individual sacks)will be used around all rocks to cover all foam so no
sunlight can reach foam. All the mortar will be mixed on site with water in 5 gallon buckets.
7. All rock and foam will be sloped to match existing slope face from ceiling to floor.
8. All leftover material and waste will be transported off site by pickup and taken to proper
disposal.
