CESARE,INC.
feet thick. The rockfill should be saturated by watering its surface prior to compaction. Compaction
should be performed by a vibratory roller of at least 10 tons static weight. The entire rockfill surface
should undergo at least five passes by the vibratory roller prior to proceeding to another lift. A Cesare
representative should observe all rockfill placement operation to verify proper placement.
EARTH FILL
Cesare understands the coarse granular fill will consist of the material tested and reported in this
memorandum. This material should be placed in lifts not exceeding 1 foot thick, moisture conditioned
to at least optimum moisture content (OMC) and compacted to at least 100% of maximum density.
OMC and maximum density should be determined according ASTM D698. A Cesare representative
should perform in-place moisture and density testing of the fill to verify its placement.
SLOPE BENCHING
Either fill type will require benching into existing side slopes as fill placement progresses. Rockfill
benching should be performed at vertical intervals not exceeding 4 feet. Coarse granular fill benching
should be performed at vertical intervals not exceeding 2 feet. The benches should extend
horizontally into the slope to fresh bedrock contact.
1
i
1
1
1
1
1
20.075 Aggregate Industries Haul Road Memorandum 05.14.20 4
