Presently seven main seams are recovered. They are the "H", "I", "K", "L", "M", "Q", and "R" seams. Later, other seams may be recovered. When practicable, any rider seams are also recovered. (Refer to Section 2.7.1 for a more detailed discussion of the coal seams recovered.) In some cases, pit dewatering of open cuts will be performed using portable pumps. In addition, dewatering wells may be installed at the north end of the pit cuts or south above the pit cuts and in front of the advancing active mining area. The wells are constructed no more than ten feet below the lowest mineable coal seam and may be pumped prior to the beginning of actively "opening up" the area. Appropriate well permits have been filed (Section 2.7.5.4) and provide Trapper the legal right to construct and pump these wells. Appropri- ate records are kept concerning the volume of water pumped from the open pit cuts and drilled wells. The mining methods employed at the Trapper Mine effectively conserve and utilize the coal resource. Coal is recovered to the maximum depth that present equipment and economic limits will allow. This endeavor minimizes the possibility of re -mining the area by surface methods and results in a program that maximizes coal recovery and minimizes surface disturbance. 3.1.4.1 Mining Sequence Ashmore Pit Mining Area Mining in Ashmore pit (A -pit) was completed in 1999. After performing reclamation activities, the Queen Anne dragline walked to Ashmore East pit. Ashmore East Pit Mining Area The Queen Anne dragline was the primary stripping machine for this area until 2003. The Baby Doe dragline conducted stripping in this area in 2006 and early 2007. As this pit is tied closely to the L Pit advance, it is now incorporated into L Pit, hence will no longer be called Ashmore East Pit Mining Area. Derringer/Enfield Pit Mining Area This area located in No Name drainage is permitted as a future ash disposal site. With the exception of developing a small area on the north end of this pit, Derringer/Enfield pit (D/E-pit) will remain idle (temporarily abandoned) until ash disposal operations begin Final reclamation in Derringer/Enfield Pit will occur when its ash disposal capacity is used up (sometime after the 2013-2017 permit term). See Section 3.5.5 for a description of temporary abandonment. East Flintlock (also known as Z) Pit Mining Area East Flintlock (Z) pit is located in the East Pyeatt, Oak, West Flume, Middle Flume and Horse drainages. Previous cuts in this pit were dug by the Molly Brown and were strikeline pits located primarily in the East Pyeatt and Oak drainages. The Molly Brown completed these strike line cuts as well as a series of dip line cuts advancing to the east during the 2008-2012 permit term. East Flintlock Pit is currently backfilled and in the final reclamation process. Flintlock Pit Mining Area The Baby Doe and Queen Anne draglines were the primary stripping machines for this area. Located in the East Pyeatt drainage, mining in these F -pit dip line cuts was completed during the 2008-2012 permit term.
