The 15 mg/L is a conservative estimate of the coagulant dosage and can
be further optimized at full-scale to minimize operational costs and confirm there is no
excess iron in the treated water. pH was adjusted between 7-8 for the first test, and 9-10
for the second and third tests. Two tests were run at a pH of 9-10 due to the variability in
metal removal at that concentration during the jar testing. Water from the MRI unit ran
directly into Train A for the first MRI unit test and was rerouted during the high pH tests
to ensure no damage was done to the biological community at those pH levels.
Water samples were collected at the inlet and outlet of the MRI unit for each of the 3
tests. At the completion of each jar test, 2 L of water were collected in a beaker from the
outlet of the MRI unit. Sulfuric acid was dosed into the jar using a pipette to determine
the volume needed to bring the pH of the water back down to neutral before entry into
the bioreactor system.
Treatability Testing Report 21 December 11,2018
