During the early stages of piloting water was <br /> sourced from the Atlas Cumberland drifts which has a chemical make up quite different <br /> from the bulk of other source waters which discharge into the main Revenue Tunnel. <br /> After June 18,water was sourced from the main Revenue Tunnel ditch which is a mixture <br /> of waters from over 8 main areas of which is the Atlas Cumberland is a small percentage. <br /> The later sourced water from the Revenue ditch is more reflective of overall water quality <br /> expected during the operational stage of the passive water treatment system. <br /> The Atlas/Cumberland drift is known to be high in manganese resulting from the <br /> increased presence of Rhodonite (manganese oxide) in the vein. Manganese oxides can <br /> be seen precipitating where water flows off the Atlas/Cumberland coffer dams. The Atlas <br /> Cumberland is also slightly enriched in lead minerals. Therefore, water quality results <br /> from the early portions of the testing over represented manganese contributions, and <br /> potentially lead contributions. Atlas Cumberland contributions to the total mine flow <br /> range from negligible to 7 GPM based on records from 2013 and 2015. Historically <br /> manganese has not been a compliance challenge for the mine as the higher concentrations <br /> emanating from the Atlas Cumberland are diluted within the Revenue Tunnel and <br /> manganese oxides naturally precipitate out in oxidizing environments. During the pilot <br /> study manganese could be seen forming on the surface of Al/B1 barrels.High manganese <br /> may have also contributed to higher TSS during the same time frame(Appendix H). <br /> After June 18, 2018 the water entering the pilot test was captured from the ditch and <br /> included contributions from all three major vein structures. A reduction in manganese <br /> and TSS entering the pilot test can be seen in subsequent data (Appendix H and I). <br /> However, turbidity and suspended solids may still have been over-represented in pilot <br /> test influent. Ditch-mucking, a normal part of mine operations, was being performed <br /> during the pilot test. Mucking occurring during the course of the pilot test released <br /> sediments associated with the drilling of the raised bore vent in 2014. <br /> l reatabilitc I tm Rcpo t 18 December 11,2018 <br />
