Golden, Colorado 80403
Ph#(303)279-4150 Fax#(303)279-4799
Exhibit H — Wildlife Information
An Information for Planning and Consultation (IPaC) report (Service U. F., IPaC Explore Location,
2020), through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), was generated for the proposed
affected area of the mine on March 9, 2020. The results of the search yielded a list of
potentially impacted endangered or threatened species, migratory birds protected by the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Bald and Golden Eagle Treaty Act.The results of the report are
shown below.
Name Scientific Name Status Notes
Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse Zapus hudonius preblei Threatened Affected area outside critical habitat
Only needs to be considered if there will be water related
Least Tern Sterna antillarum Endangered activities/use in the N.Platte,S.Platte and Laramie River
Basins
Mexican Spotted Owl Strix occidentalis lucida Threatened Affected area outside critical habitat
Only needs to be considered if there will be water related
Piping Plover Charadrius melodus Threatened activities/use in the N.Platte,S.Platte and Laramie River
Basins.Affected Area is outside critical habitat
Only needs to be considered if there will be water related
Whooping Crane Grus americana Endangered activities/use in the N.Platte,S.Platte and Laramie River
Basins.Affected Area is outside critical habitat
Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Protected uner the Bald and Not a bird of conservation concern in the area
Golden Eagle Protection Act
Burrowing Owl Athene cunicularia State Threatened Not a bird of conservation concern in the area
Protected uner the Bald and Not a bird of conservation concern in the area
Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos
Golden Eagle Protection Act
The Preble Meadow Jumping Mouse (PMJM) is not likely to be within the affected area due to
the lack of a well-developed riparian habitat in the locality of the proposed mine site (Service U.
F., Environmental Conservation Online System, 2020). Within the State of Colorado, the PMJM
has multiple defined critical habitats, which primarily fall at the base of the foothills and within
the foothills along major river corridors. The proposed affected area of the mine does not fall
within, or near, the spatial extents of any critical habitat. No impacts to this species are
anticipated.
The Least Tern is not known to have a population within Adams county (Service U. F.,
Environmental Conservation Online System, 2020). No impacts to this species are anticipated.
The USFWS ECOS describes spotted owls' habitat as consisting of mature forests that possess
complex structural components or canyoned areas dominated by vertical walled cliffs that
could contain areas that provide protected nest and roost sites usually in conjunction with a
permanent source of water. Spotted Owl habitat in Colorado either consists of tall, vertical
walled cliffs or mature, multi-storied canopied forests. Due to the lack of either of these habitat
types within the proposed affected area, no impacts to this are anticipated.
