March 9,2020 C-1981-035/King Coal Mine JHB
The clean water diversion ditch on the east side of the King 1 facilities was walked. The ditch has held up well
over the winter months. The rip rap consists of rounded river rock. At this time the rip rap is intact without any
evidence of shifting or washing out. Even the steeper reach has held up well. No problems were identified with
the stilling basin and culvert to the West pond.
PROCESSING WASTE/COAL MINE WASTE PILES—Rule 4.10 and 4.11
Drainage Control; Surface Stabilization; Placement:
GCC continues to truck coal refuse material from the King II facilities to the King I refuse pile. GCC is
not trucking the material to the upper refuse pile during the winter months. Refuse is being placed and compacted
on the lower portion of the refuse pile. This active area has been graded to allow runoff to drain off the pile. The
pile was relatively dry over much of the surface with limited portions being wet from runoff or snowmelt. The wet
areas were avoided and allowed to dry.
ROADS—Rule 4.03
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4), Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5)and(6)/4.03.2(5) and(6),Reclamation
4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Haul roads at both the King I and King II facilities were free of snow, draining well, and well maintained.
GCC has recently shaped some of the roadside ditches at the King II facilities area to keep the area draining and
water flowing away from the active work areas.
SAE 1 at King I was well graded and the sediment traps were clear of ice and debris and appear functional.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
The King II facilities area were clean and orderly. The access trail to the MR50 exploration trenches was
nicely graded to blend with the surrounding slope. No erosional features were apparent on the regraded slope.
The King I facilities were neat and orderly. The refuse material was not being worked at the time of the
inspection.
TOPSOIL—Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4:
The topsoil stockpile at King II remains well vegetated. Coal dust was not blowing at the time of the
inspection. Some buildup of sediment was noted in the Topsoil stockpile ring ditch on the north east portion of the
pile. This sediment may need some clean out, once the area is dry enough,in order to maintain the design of the
berm.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER(SPECIFY) NA
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 6
