WALSENBURG SAND A GRAVEL CO. INC. - -
1 r
P.O. DRAWER 352 -==--
`"``"r WAUENBUR09 COLORADO 81089 _ r "
PHONE / FAX (719) 7384 883
INERT FILL NOTICE (RULE 3.1.5(9))
Sand Arroyo Pit- Permit# M-1978-283
During the life of the mine The Walsenburg Sand and Gravel
Company will import inert materials as defined in Rule 1 . 1 (20) ,
into this mining operation. Reclamation activities at this mine
involve operation as a sand mine where the imported material
will be hauled to the site for use in reclaiming mined areas
above the Sand Arroyo channel . This will not be an open inert
land fill operation and the material will only come from our
projects or sources we control . The material will consist mostly
of excavated sand and gravel from construction sites or other
mines that will be processed at the plant on this mine . Some
minor amounts of concrete or asphalt rubble may be imported. The
rejects from the processed material such as dirt, reject sand
and dirt mix generated during screening, clay balls, smaller
pieces of brick, or concrete, and dirt mixed with the finer
material will be placed in the terrace mining area as backfill .
It is unknown at this time how much material will be imported
but we expect it to be 100 tons or less per year.
No specific compaction rates are proposed for the fill
placement . We will run heavy equipment over the material during
the filling process and it is compacted as a result .
Stabilization of this fill material is not a concern because of
the way it is placed below the normal surrounding surface. The
backfilled area will be used for rangeland and there is no need
to compact it at a specific rate other then what happens during
the placement of the material .
We will record the volume imported each year and keep a
running total, so if needed, the Division will know how much and
how it as disposed of . We will continue to import inert material
until we no longer have a location to put it . If the supply of
suitable fill drys up and filling is not completed the fill area
will be graded according to the approved Reclamation Plan
resoiled and seeded. The depth of the fill will not be so great
as to affect offsite lands if settling occurred.
3/6/2020
