Fall 2019 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Southern Panels Mining Area
4.5.4 Location 6
Beginning approximately 60 feet west of the fork in the road leading to either the MVB E8-7 or
MVB E8-8 pad and continuing eastward is a series of six sets of parallel subsidence cracks that
appeared between spring and fall 2019 in response to longwall mining activities that passed
beneath the area (Figures 12 and 13). These crack sets are comprised of 2 to 4 individual cracks
with a general orientation of about N1 O°E and offset from each other by about 20 to 25 feet. The
largest and most continuous of the crack sets is located at the fork (Figure 14). This set of three
cracks each had maximum dimensions of 160 feet of nearly continuous length, 6 inches in width,
and 24 inches in depth. Two of these cracks could be traced discontinuously to the north across
other portions of the access road to the MVB E8-7 pad.
'4S
°f
-
Figure 12. Eastward view during the fall 2019 field visit of the westernmost series
of several parallel subsidence crack sets located both west and east of the fork in
the road leading to either the MVB E8-7 or E8-8 pad. These crack sets appeared
after longwall mining passed beneath this area between spring and fall 2019 and
have a general orientation of N10°E and an offset of about 20 to 25 feet from each
other.
831-032.910 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
