EXHIBIT H WILDLIFE INFORMATION
1. Significant Wildlife Resources on the Affected Lands
CPW describes the Rincon Materials area as overall range and summer range for mule deer and elk.
Mule deer and elk could occur in the area year-round, but are more likely to use the sagebrush
habitat in winter and migrate to higher elevations in summer. The Rincon Materials area provides
overall range for bighorn sheep, which inhabit the steep country on BLM lands east of the Rincon
Materials area. Bighorn sheep occasionally move through the Rincon Materials area to reach the
Colorado River. Other big game animals that are infrequent in the area are mountain lion and black
bear. Raptors likely to hunt over the area include red-tailed hawk, American kestrel, great -horned
owl, long-eared owl, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, and bald eagle.
CPW describes part of the Rincon Materials area as bald eagle winter foraging range and identifies
an active bald eagle nest site south of the confluence of the Eagle and Colorado rivers, about a half
mile south of the Proposed Permit Boundary. The nearest peregrine falcon nests are approximately
2 miles north of the Proposed Permit Boundary. The only potential negative impact concerns any
eagles which may use the cottonwood trees along the Colorado River. Since the amount of
disturbance is small, this should not result in a large impact to the eagles, since their use of these
cottonwood trees is very limited. The eagles do not nest in these trees but occasionally use the trees
for resting.
2. Significant Non -Game Resources on the Affected Lands
Greater sage grouse, squirrel, otter and other small animals are found along the Colorado River. A
variety of small mammals and reptiles also potentially inhabit the general area, including white-
tailed prairie dog, several species of mice, voles, shrews, woodrats and bats, cottontail rabbit,
striped skunk, raccoon, red fox, coyote, badger, plateau striped whiptail, sagebrush lizard, and bull
snake. Migratory songbirds potentially using the habitat of the Rincon Materials area include
Brewer's sparrow, sage sparrow, sage thrasher, loggerhead shrike, and green -tailed towhee.
3.
