PERMIT#: M-1987-116
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: February 12,2020
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted by Eric Scott of the Division of Reclamation Mining and
Safety (DRMS) of the Siskin Pit, a 9 acre, 110c permit operated by Colorado Quarries Inc. Permittee
representative Aaron Tezak accompanied DRMS during the inspection. The Siskin pit is located approximately
4 miles SE of the town of Silvercliff and access is restricted to the area by a locked steel gate. Although the
permit was issued in 1978, only about 3 acres of the permit area have been disturbed to date. The permit is
mined as needed for landscaping material, and the approved post mining land use is rangeland.
The site identification sign and boundary markers were observed during the inspection (photo 1) and no
problems or issues were noted. The mine was inactive at the time of the inspection with no equipment
present on site. There were stockpiles of crushed material located on site that the operator utilizes when
needed (photos 5 and 6). Mr. Tezak stated that mining would likely not resume until the material in the
existing stockpiles was utilized.
The attached photos 2-4 show the excavated area of the permit which is outlined by a 8-10 foot rock ledge
along all sides. Because the approximately 3 acre affected area has not increased in quite some time, the
existing bond of$30,700 should be adequate to reclaim the site if needed.
No issues were noted during this inspection, however the operator is encouraged to monitor for and treat
noxious weeds if they become present in the disturbed areas, and maintain the permit boundary markers as
needed.
Inspection Contact Address
Aaron Tezak
Colorado Quarries Inc
270 S 15th St
Canon City,CO 81212
