CONTINENTAL MATERIALS CORPORATION
Response: The maps included in Exhibits C and F show the borrow areas, and the maps have been
revised to specify the volume of material available from each area.
44. Existing Scarp:The three sections analyzed in Exhibit 6.5 do not cover the existing limestone cap that
remained in place after previous slides in 2008, 2009 and 2015. This scarp lies between cross-section Z-Z'
and the Lower Borrow Area section shown on map Exhibit C-2. Please address the stability of this scarp
and explain why it was not addressed in the stability analyses.
Response: The cross-sections analyzed were drawn along the slope gradient through the landslide. The
direction of movement above the scarp is not in perpendicular to the slope and a geotechnical analysis
across the slope would provide results that are artificially high due to the apparently lower slope angles.
Section Y-Y' in the center of the slide area has the lowest factors of safety, and this section controlled
the geotechnical assessment and reclamation design. The slope gradients that stabilize Section Y-Y' were
used for the entire slide area, which was specifically extended to the southernmost point of the scarp
near at the toe of the slide to provide a buttress for the entire scarp. The extents of the buttress fill have
been added to the maps in Exhibit C.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment 4, Response to Adequacy
February 7,2020
15
