PERMIT#: M-2019-027
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:January 15,2020
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the 9.9 acre 110c Keensburg Project sand mine. The site is
located in Weld County north of Keensburg CO one mile north of the intersection of CR59 and CR20 on the
east side of CR59. The inspection was conducted in conjunction with the pre-operational inspection for the
overlapping 112c SaturnX permit application currently under review by DRMS. The inspection was conducted
by Eric Scott of the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety (DRMS) who was accompanied on-site by plant
manager Mike Manke, and by permitting consultant Miles Blair of Applegate.
Mr. Manke stated that the site began operations in late summer 2019, and that the processing plant was now
operating as planned. The existing processing plant and support area takes up almost the entire existing 9.9
acre permit area. Very little permitted area remains for excavation, wash fine storage, or off-spec materials.
When the proposed 206 acre SaturnX permit is issued, it will contain the entirety of the existing 110c
Keensburg Project permit area. At that time, if the permittee requests, the existing 110c permit would likely
be terminated by DRMS as it will be redundant.
Only one issue was observed during this inspection. The site identification sign near the site entrance should
be moved to where the site access road intersects with CR59, and properly oriented so it is visible from the
access road. This issue should be corrected and proof submitted to the Division of the corrective actions
taken by the corrective action due date shown on the first page of this report (Jan 31, 2020).
Other than the placement and orientation of the site identification sign noted above, the site appeared to be
well-run and in compliance with the approved mining plan at the time of this inspection. See the attached
Photos 1-6 for representative views of the site operation at this time.
No other items of concern were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mike Manke
Colorado Sand Company LLC
808 9th Street
Greeley,CO 80631
