Ground Water Hydrology X-Section (Figure-2) which shows location of three wells that are located in
near proximity to the N-S X-Section Line and SWL's have been projected to the X-Section.
These data clearly show an aquifer in the Navajo Formation that is confined by a thick sequence of
mudstones and claystone's in the Carmel Formation which overlies the Navajo. Lewis Lot 46 Well is
completed in the Navajo and demonstrates an approximately 10 foot artesian head. Approximately 600
feet south of the Lot 46 well, the Lot 50 Well shows a SWL of 24 feet. Clearly, there is not a single
piezometric surface that crosses the Carmel Formation. There are two piezometric surfaces; one in the
Navajo and the other in formations up section from the Entrada.
The Lot 51 Well is located approximately 900 feet south of the Lot 50 Well and shows a SWL of 100 feet.
There may be no hydraulic connection between the Lot 50 and Lot 51 Wells, however, the SWL's suggest
they may be located on the same piezometric surface and this interpretation is present on Figure-2.
Permits to drill two other wells in the area (Forbes Lot 50 and Mead Lot 52) were applied for but there is
no evidence either of the wells were ever drilled.
The N-S Hydrologic X-Section is expected to represent the average ground water condition throughout
the Skull Mine Permit area due to the continuation of the geologic formations which control the
groundwater hydrologic regimes.
Uinta Mining, LLC does not believe the mining plan will affect or interfere with the aquifer described
above. But because of the water elevation reflected in in the Lot 51 well, UMC will drill and verify water
aquifer location once mining reaches 50 feet above the projected water level. These holes will be drilled
20 feet below the projected mining limits guaranteeing that the aquifer will not be intercepted by
mining operations.
If drilling intercepts water level, mining of the sand will end at 20 feet above that level.
Skull Creek runs North and South along the East side of the mining permit. Uinta Mining will protect
Skull Creek with a non-disturbed buffer zone 100' each side of the flow line of the drainage. The buffer
zone will be identified with signage to guarantee that no disturbance or activity will occur within the
buffer zone. The boundaries of the buffer zone is reflected on Figure 2.
November 11, 2019
