Bowie Resources, LLC
Page 2of4
Review of 2018 AHR for the Bowie No. 2 Mine
It is not clear to the Division why some parameters in the surface water list in the Hydrologic
Monitoring Plan of the PAP are not included in the 2018 AHR data. Please explain. Examples
include Dissolved Oxygen at Deer-low and Dissolved Iron at HUB-low.
Key receiving waters at the Bowie No. 2 Mine are Deer Trail Ditch and Hubbard Creek. An analysis of
data for the downstream sampling locations for these receiving waters were a primary focus of this AHR
review.
Analysis of Surface Water Data—Deer Trail Ditch
For the downstream sampling site, Deer-low,the following table includes data for parameters that:
a. Had data above the detection limit in 2018
b. Correspond to standards in Regulation#35 (Segment 6a.) of the CDPHE Water Quality
Standards.
For the parameters in the table, the concentrations for sampling point Deer-low indicate no problems
related to standards from Regulation 35 (Segment 6a.).
Table 2.2018 AHR Data from Deer-low Sam l ng Site in Deer Trail Ditch
Concentration
in 2018 AHR CDPHE
Parameter Units (4/19/2018) Standard Comments
Standard includes low limit and high
pH su 8.2 6.5 - 9.0 limit.
Temperature deg C 5.5 28.6 Standard for non-winter months.
Iron,TREC mg/L 0.293 1.0 Standard is chronic.
The Total Dissolved Solids JDS)value for the Deer-low sample from April 19,2018 was 127 mg/L.
This is well below the commonly-used guideline of 750 mg/L (Banta, 1988).
Analysis of Surface Water Data—Hubbard Creek
For the downstream sampling site,HUB-low,the following table includes data for parameters that:
a. Had data above the detection limit in 2018
b. Correspond to standards in Regulation#35 (Segment 6a.) of the CDPHE Water Quality
Standards.
For the parameters in the table, the concentrations for sampling point HUB-low indicate no problems
related to standards from Regulation 35 (Segment 6a.).
