CCV Emergency Response Plan <br /> NEWMONT <br /> NORTH AMERICA <br /> (d) Difficulty in breathing —suffocating feeling. <br /> (e) Feeling of general weakness with heaviness in arms and legs. <br /> (f) Irritations of nose, mouth and throat. <br /> 5.14.18 Symptoms of severe cyanide poisoning include: <br /> (a) Cherry red complexion, flushed <br /> (b) Gasping for breath <br /> (c) Loss of consciousness <br /> (d) Breathing may be weak or absent and may result in cardiac arrest and possible death. <br /> 5.14.19 Routes of Exposure: <br /> (a) Eye Contact: Cyanide is carried in a solution of water and caustic to maintain a high pH. <br /> Immediately flush with large amounts of water for at least 20 minutes, eyelids should be held <br /> open. <br /> (b) Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with large amounts of <br /> water. <br /> (c) Ingestion: Do not give anything by mouth. <br /> (d) Protection of Rescuers: Care should be taken in handling a patient whose clothing is <br /> contaminated with cyanide. <br /> *Note: It is important that the rescuer is not exposed to contamination. <br /> 5.14.20 NOTE: Rescuer must avoid becoming a casualty and wear a SCBA over 10 ppm HCN. <br /> 5.14.21 Semiconscious or Unconscious Breathing Victim All Routes Of Exposure: <br /> (a) Symptoms of drowsiness and or slurred speech. <br /> (b) Position patient to keep airway open. <br /> (c) Give Oxygen High dose 15 liter. Non Rebreather <br /> (d) Get Cyanide Antidote Kit <br /> 5.14.22 Unconscious Non-breathing Victim All Exposure Routes: <br /> (a) Use of a one way valve pocket mask for artificial respiration is necessary or bag valve mask <br /> with oxygen. <br /> (b) Perform CPR using CAB (Circulation, Airway & Breathing) protocol, until the victim has <br /> adequate breathing or until medical help arrives. <br /> 5.14.23 Location of First Aid Equipment: Red MRT Bag and Cyanco Kit <br /> (a) Carlton Security <br /> (b) HG Mill Control room <br /> (c) ADR 2 Control Room <br /> 5.14.24 Eye wash stations are located in all process areas where cyanide is located <br /> 5.14.25 Response Procedure: <br /> (a) Personnel shall wear full protective clothing/gear. <br /> (b) SCBA's or chemical goggles and face shield should be used to protect the face. <br /> (c) If the spill has breached a concrete containment, control with soil berms. <br /> (d) Solution should be returned to the process circuit <br /> Department THIS DOCUMENT IS UNCONTROLLED IN HARD COPY FORMAT Doc Id:NA-CCV-HSLP-PLAN-1775 <br /> Health Safety&Loss Prevention Date of This Issue:25 June 2018 Date of Next Review:25 June 2019 Page 23 of 38 <br />
