FORMULAS FOR NEUTRALIZING CYANIDE <br /> The dent action of cyanide with chlorine involves using 8 parks of CL2 to one part of <br /> NaCN_ The calcium hypochlonte that is used contains 65%available C12_ <br /> For a 1000 gallon spill containing 2 pounds per tan cyanide,use 51 pounds of calcium <br /> hyp xMcrite_ <br /> Some useful number: <br /> One (1)gallon water weighs _00418 tons <br /> One (1)ton water has 239.23 gallons <br /> One(1)pound NaCN(not CN)requires- <br /> 3-1/4 gallons household bleach, <br /> 1-1/4 gallons commercial sodium hypochlorite, or <br /> 2-1/4 pounds dry calcium hypochlonte_ <br /> There are 100 pounds of calcium hypochloiite per container;therefore, one drum will treat 2000 <br /> gallons_ Exact measurement is not necessary,however,it would be better to over estimate_ <br /> Solutions must be dilute solutions- Recommendation is to treat a maximum 1%NaCN solution <br /> with a maxinmun 1%hypochlonte solution,mixing slowly by adding 10%of hypochlonte every <br /> 1 to 3 minutes while stirring_ <br /> PH must be controlled to avoid cyanogen chloride release. <br />
